"To know God’s will is man’s greatest treasure; to do His will is life’s greatest privilege." -Anonymous
Jerry Golsteyn
These words of wisdom describe a journey of which we all travel in our walk with the Lord. My journey has taken many years and continues to draw me into a deeper relationship with Him.
My journey began with a desire to know God and a heart of an athlete. I was fortunate to receive a scholarship to play football at Northern Illinois University. My football career continued in the NFL where I played quarterback for the New York Giants beginning in 1976 and finished with the Orlando Renegades of the USFL in1986. It was during this time that I finally came to know Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. Life after football included banking, teaching, coaching, athletic director and raising a family in Central Florida. We moved to Fayetteville in 2004 to be a part of our son’s new family. Three years later I am working with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes as the Area Director for the South Region.
I know it was all part of my journey as so many of my past experiences were times of preparation to fulfill the calling to FCA. I consider it a privilege to serve the Lord and the residents of the South Region through the ministry of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
My beautiful wife Nancy is a wonderful mother and Principal of the elementary and middle school at Fayetteville Christian School. Matt is a graduate of West Point and a Captain completing Special Forces training stationed at Ft Bragg. He is married and has 2 children, making us grandparents. Our daughter, Ruth is a lieutenant in the National Guard and a student at UNC Pembroke. |
